Evaluation:
I was looking for a switcher that could handle a few different things for me:
1. Pedals in front of the amp
2. Pedals in the FX loop
3. Channel switching on the amp
I did search the entire internet (literally!) and ended up deciding between the G-Lab GSC-3, Rocktron Patchmate Floor 8 and the MoenFX GEC9. That is, my choice had to be made from reading and viewing on the internet - I wouldn't get a chance to actually test and evaluate the products in real life.
For me, an important factor is price vs. facilities. With the GEC9 from MoenFX I could straight away get my pedals and amp working. With the G-Lab GSC-3 I needed an expansion looper and the Rocktron Patchmate had "only" 8 loops (I need 9!) and needed a separate MIDI-switching pedal for scrolling up and down in the presets.
So basically, the GEC9 was the upfront winner on facilities. And also on the price.
Now I have bought it from Jörg at Tonfan.de. We had a few e-mail conversations in which Jörg did serve me with detailed and quick answers - thanks for that, Jörg!
Features of the GEC9 can be read at moenfx.com so I will just comment on it from a user perspective.
1. Sound colouration:
I experience NO colouration of the clean sound going through the device.
2. Programming:
Is dead simple. You just press the small buttons on the device to (de-)active the loops. The next time you return to the same program it will show the latest setting on this program.
3. Changing presets
There is NO silence gap when I change presets. The switching buttons are silent and really nice to use.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with this switcher. I can't compare it to other switching devices as this one is my first switcher, but I do not regret choosing this one. It's cheap, very well built and offers a lot of facilities that will satisfy any guitarist that does not need MIDI.
